Christmas Travel Destinations

There are many places for people to spend Christmas. Some people head across country to spend the holidays with family or friends. Others may live in a climate that does not offer that “Christmas feeling” so they choose to simply take a trip to spend time in a climate or a city that does provide that overall spirit of the Yule. The holiday season is fast upon us, and when traveling through the country be aware that those temperature differences mean different road conditions. If a vehicle needs repairs or if it is necessary to find tires for sale
prices, this is not a bad time to do so, as holiday discounts will be plentiful. Here are a few suggestions for fun alternatives to spending the holidays at home.

Why not begin, where the stories begin – at the North Pole. Located in the state of Alaska, the North Pole community provides a comprehensive Christmas experience, the only one that includes the house of Santa Claus himself. Along with that famous residence, parties and activities such as art and sporting events occur throughout the town. While you are at it, send a post card or gift from the Post Office as the return address will be non other than that of Old Saint Nick . Other locations, while they may not boast a Christmas celebrity of such magnitude, do offer the look of Christmas, the feel and the weather and the decorations. Woodstock, Vermont and Kennebunkport, Maine are two such cities. Woodstock is known for its old town charm, the quaint shop fronts, and the hospitality of the residents. The same holds true for the town of Kennebunkport, however if it’s Christmas ham or turkey you’re looking for you may be in for a surprise. The celebratory feast in this town, is a festival of lobster dishes.

If the rims and tires of your car are taking you out West, there will be no shortage of festive cities and happenings. A “Wild West” Christmas is what you will find in the town of Durango, Colorado. Here, even the cowboy hats and boots are in the spirit and decor of the Christmas holiday. A train ride on the Polar Express is fun for children as it is more like a moving slumber party, pajamas and all. And while a snow globe of San Antonio, Texas may not actually contain any snow, this is another Western city that will not leave you in want of the Christmas spirit. The entire town is lit up with lights. Colorful clothing and decorations such as pinatas, boats on the San Antonio River and mariachi bands provide the warmth and the feel of the holiday season. So travel this year, to a place where family and friends live, or to a place you have never been and create a holiday memory that will last a lifetime.

Using Maps to Remember a Trip

Traveling is a great experience and it creates so many memories. Most people take pictures to help remember their trip but another great way to remember what an amazing time it was is through maps.

Maps are multi-faceted and serve many different purposes. They are guidelines on where to go, they are a form of history and they are also artwork. If there was a trip that you particularly liked or a place that you absolutely loved, then why not get a custom wall map made of that place. A wall map will allow you to remember where you went and why you loved it.

Also, a wall map will serve as a decorative piece in a room as it can be as large or as small as you want it. Not only will it add color and a focal point but it will also be a great conversation starter. When people ask why you have a map of that particular place you can tell them why and you can tell them all about your trip. Not only is it for the benefit of yourself but for others too, as your story might inspire them to travel somewhere new.

The use of maps in a room adds so many new dimensions to the room because although each map is of the same place and geographically they are all the same, they are each different at the same time. Old, antique maps have incredible designs around the edge and are meticulously drawn out whereas newer more recent maps are printed and have a more industrial feel to them. Maps also add color to a room. While some maps are in black and white, most have some sort of color for the different areas on the map.

Going on vacation or traveling around the globe is an incredible experience and it’s one that should be documented, whether it be on a camera, in a scrapbook, or a hanging wall map.

Foreign Travel is Risky

Is there anything as exciting as the thought of traveling around the globe, experiencing new cultures and seeing exotic lands? Entire industries are built around the premise that humankind wants to see and do new things and visit new places. The anticipation of a trip abroad is usually based on the beautiful and wonderful things that lie ahead, but there are also risks associated with global travel. Perhaps, for many, that risk only adds to the excitement.

The so called adrenaline junkie thrives on the physical excitement of sports and recreational activities. They grow up skiing, biking, hiking, and surfing. They are the first in line to try extreme sports and will likely incorporate them into any trip to another country. They will scuba dive in every ocean, zip line through forests and jungles, and bungee jump off the most famous bridges in the world.

Daring travelers like those are not the only ones at risk. The simple act of stepping on a plane or boarding a cruise ship is an act of faith that no mechanical, weather, or other problem will occur. Foreign travelers risk losing their passports, having their luggage stolen or being stranded in an airport or train station due to unforeseeable circumstances.

All of these risks can be alleviated to a degree by purchasing Bajaj Allianz travel insurance or some form of insurance. While these policies don’t prevent the worst from happening, they do give travelers the means to fix problems, pay for medical care, and get back to enjoying their travel.

Gastown was the heart of the city’s original downtown. In the 1960s a campaign was launched to preserve and protect the area, resulting in its declaration as a historical site in 1971. This protected buildings from being torn down and focused efforts on restoration. Gastown was named a National Historic Site of Canada in 2009.

Visitors to the area today can stay in Vancouver hotels and enjoy restaurants, nightclubs, art galleries and an eclectic mix of shops. A Fort Lauderdale Expatriate in Berlin

It’s impossible to predict when an artist’s life will reveal a legacy in process, where the work makes room for itself in the many canons of the world. But it is exciting when a voice starts to take roots of its own, and there is evidence of something in the process of becoming. The work of Travis Jeppesen has made traces of itself etched into something entirely new, and at the same time entirely traveled. He is often compared to Gertrude Stein, simply because of the parallels in life lived elsewhere, but also for the close attention to language.

Now based in Berlin, he moved to Europe in 2001, and found a place where the inner landscapes of language find a more significant resonance. Where the dominant language is no longer English, he finds, like she did, that there is suddenly new spaces that open. Without the ability to hear it reflected in the streets, it becomes something much more personal, and takes on another kind of weight. Having grown up in Florida, where the appeal of a five star Fort Lauderdale hotel brings guests from all over, he has become a guest in another place, and the permanence of residency is always in question.

New Health-Inspection Scoring for New York Restaurants

It began in July of 2010; every New York City restaurant is now required to post a letter grade that corresponds to its health-inspection score. Los Angeles has been using this letter-coding system for years and it has become very successful for the city as well as the patrons.

Based on the new health-inspection letter system, a restaurant, even the ones located inside the New York City hotels , are awarded a ‘A’ for scores between 1-13; a ‘B’ for scores between 14 – 27; and a ‘C’ for 28 and higher. Each health-code violation earns a certain number of points, so lower scores equal fewer violations. Though all signs must be posted in a conspicuous place that’s visable to people walking by, restaurant patrons can also go to the Department of Health website and allows anyone to look up a restaurant by name at instantly get their score.

Many New Yorkers have taken advantage of this website and have reported that when they saw the history of violations such as ‘evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and in non-food areas’, they couldn’t believe their eyes. Surprisingly, some of the affordable restaurants fared better than the finer dining establishments. Many of the restaurants ‘Letter’ grade have not been posted yet, due to the implementation of the new health-system coding was only completed in May of this year.

Most restaurant patrons prefer not to know the dirty little details of how well the restaurant is within the health-codes, but evidentially, that letter posted in either the door of the restaurant or easily visible with just a glance will work on their subconscious mind and one day, if the grading at their favorite eatery keeps reading a ‘C’, may begin to shed light that this establishment really does have poor health practices and will end up eating at an ‘A’ graded restaurant instead.
