Smuggling in Melbourne

Finally left New Zealand and was sad to be leaving, but I was so excited to be seeing Joan and Saul in Melbourne. My flight was the first flight where I was actually greeted by a friendly face waiting for me when I arrive. Joan picked me up in her big Land Rover and she sped me across town to one of the top Melbourne hotels. This hotel wasn’t like any of my other accommodations I’ve had so far. I found myself in the luxury of a very posh hotel.

Joan and I had a lot of catching up to do and we chatted all night. It almost felt like we were back where we both grew up together. I had to take a double-take when I thought about how we both are now on the other side of the world and we haven’t seen each other for over 2 years. We spent the next two days exploring Melbourne and she showed me how to get around on the trams. We Went to the National Gallery, we checked out the library and I saw Ned Kelly’s Armour. We went to some very cool restaurants and cafes to eat and drink. Saul finally joined us after he got off work.

That’s when we all went on the ferry over to Tasmania! To get there we all went in their Land Rover and headed out of Melbourne to the Ferry, that took us over night to Devonport on the north coast of Tasmania. There were some strangest rules about transporting fruits and vegetables around the country. When we got on the ferry we were warned about having any with us. My friends had no idea about this rules. Joan and Saul didn’t seem worried. We crossed the water smoothly and when we arrived to the other side, we got slapped with a fine for having all our fruit and veggies. I will never smuggle again!
