Filming Vancouver
It doesn’t take very much for people to fall in love with Vancouver. Especially if there is any trace of urban sophistication, or a fondness for a little taste and charm. But it’s especially true if one is particularly drawn to the kind of city that really has it all and still manages to keep itself small enough to maintain its own identity. Like many contemporary cities, Vancouver is able to keep an identity while still remaining quite fluid, and adept at adopting to the growing and shifting populations. These are the qualities that can make first-time visitors start wondering about the availability of a Vancouver apartment. It’s always wise to take a second look at any city one is considering living in, but this one is difficult because it is just as charming with repeated visits.
Travelers, artists, professionals, and students aren’t the only ones who are so charmed. The students at the Vancouver Film School are well aware that the charm is not lost on the film industry. Not in the least. In fact, it is one of the more prominently-featured cities in a bewildering array of contemporary cinema, and there are plenty of good reasons for that. Most of these are the same reasons that people want to move here.
It is a gorgeous city, with many different kinds of weather. It’s not too terribly cold in the winter, and not overbearingly hot for most of the summer, making it a fairly lovely spot for living and working. There is a diverse population, and this attracts businesses that bring in food and other goods from all across the globe, making it remarkably cosmopolitan. The architecture, however, is probably the main reason why so many movies are shot here.
Vancouver destinations for city scenes are attractive because the architecture is robust and interesting. There is a strong tradition of community spirit that has kept the historical buildings intact, and continues to attract bright minds and talents in the fields of architecture and design. While the same could be said for other cities in Canada, where there are similar interests in rental apartment, Vancouver is distinctive. It bears striking resemblances to other places, like Seattle, and has a modern flair. These qualities reflect well on celluloid, and read as an interesting place that looks familiar, inviting, and surprising. It reflects well on the city, but the city is a wonderful thing to be the source of a reflection.
Metaphysics, Accidents, and Motorcycles
The desire to be a participant in the creation of things, that is to say, where perception is directly linked to manifestation, is a philosophical knot. It’s one that has had metaphysicians asking important questions through the ages, trying to find some way of linking the internal and the external. And although it may not be an easy relation, the link between motorcycles and perception is one that has been well-considered. One of the most influential books of its time, Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is one that continues to enchant and puzzle the next generation of readers.
For some, the link between his very personal treatise on quality and life on two wheels is rather thin, although for bikers with a penchant for deep thinking, it’s always already apparent. There are connections between a motorcycle accident lawyer Florida offers, the way that tides affect human behavior, and a zen koan. This is something that is not at all alien to those who spend long hours on the road. There is something about keeping more alert on a bike that induces a kind of attentive and receptive thought. It lends itself readily for the deep questions, and it also provides stimuli to make the deep connections between all things.
Enduring Quality and Popularity of Converse High Tops
One of the interesting factors of popular trends and social fads is the nature of their repetition and contextual status. This can often times relate to the quality of the product and its ability to endure and continue to compete with latest market outputs. For instance, both Converse high tops and leg warmers were popular during the 1980s. And when you consider their contemporary status, you will immediately understand my earlier point.
While many things come and go throughout the years, quality products will endure and frequently become a social icon of sort. This is also distinct from the tendency for many popular trends to take on a vintage appeal some twenty years later. I don’t believe leg warmers even made it on that list, but yes they’re still around.
Chuck Taylors were everyone’s favorite shoe when I was growing up. They were cooler than Nike and Adidas, and almost everyone I knew had a pair. They were also the shoe that became cooler the older it got, and they lasted a long time. Weathered soles and holes in the canvas didn’t stop anyone I knew from wearing their Chucks. I’m not trying to be sentimental here, I just want to emphasize the fact that Converse was respected, popular and even trendy in the 80s and has continued to maintain its place in the shoe hierarchy, much like U2 and REM have done in the music world.
The Water Tower in Mannheim
Looking for your friends in Mannheim, Germany? There’s a spot you can go that no one will miss: the most famous landmark in the city, the Water Tower, may be found dominating the lawns and gardens of Friedrichsplatz (which may be translated as Friedrich’s Place). Located near the town’s main shopping district, the plaza was named after Friedrich the First, who was the Grand Duke of Baden, living from 1856 to 1907. The designers built the tower to meet the needs of an expanding city in the 19th Century, and the architecture was chosen to compliment some of the nearby buildings, such as the Rosengarten Festival Hall and the Kunsthalle . The Friedrichsplatz came to be known as the the gateway to the city center and as a calling card to the city itself.
The Water Tower was constructed in 1886, relying on plans of a 24-year-old architect named Gustav Halmhuber. The tower is made of yellow sandstone and reaches a height of 60 meters or about 197 feet. Built in the monumental style of the Romans, it holds 2,000 cubic meters of water.
On top of the Water Tower, you’ll find a statue of Amphitrite (one of the lesser known gods; Amphitrite was the wife of the god of the sea, Poseidon). The tower is also adorned with bronze groupings of mermaids and tritons, as well as two groupings of centaurs, situated around a small and a large pool. At the foot of the tower, the Friedrichsplatz spreads out, designed by Bruno Schmitz in the early part of the 20th Century, consisting of semi-circular arcades of red sandstone.
You’ll find hotels throughout Mannheim , and several in proximity to the Water Tower, which can serve as a meeting place or simply a place to relax a few hours outside the fast-paced city. After hours, you’ll see the fountains glowing in an artificial light. While the Water Tower is particularly attractive in the spring and summer months, it doesn’t lose it’s charm in winter, because the area becomes the site of a popular Christmas fair.
Retire in New York?
New York City is not a place people consider as a retirement spot, most people see New York as a young, aggressive, and trendy city, where you either hurry up or get out of the way. Once you reach 60 years of age or older, you certainly don’t want to hang around hardcore brokers, impossibly expensive doctors and some of the rudest people in the world do you? Or, do you?
If life after working most of your life means more to you than just sitting on a beach chair and waiting for the blue plate special, then the best place to retire might just be New York City. Living in New York comes with an expectation of high culture, high convenience and of course, high costs. But, for a little bit of sacrifice on your part concerning location, then trade for more space and affordability without giving up your urban lifestyle.
Hudson Heights, located in the upper reaches of Manhattan and only a 30-minute subway ride to Times Square and 40 minutes for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is the best place to retire. You can hop on the subway and be at your favorite restaurant inside a luxury New York City hotel , or just traverse the lush gardens of Fort Tryon Park , which is at the north side of Hudson Heights and overlooks the river, or venture next door of the park to the ‘New Leaf Restaurant and Bar’, an upscale establishment perfect for friendly brunches or late night romantic dinners.
Even if you’re not rich, by Manhattan standards, this neighborhood is affordable and full of fun, safe things to do, and only moments away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Manhattan. The average monthly rent is $1,500 or if you want to buy, condos run up $400,000; cheap for any New York City real-estate.
Healthy Indian Cuisine
Indian cuisine can be mysterious and confusing. The Garam Masala (a mixture of spices to create curry) is the center if this magnificent cuisine. The main ingredients of garam masala are: coriander, cumin, cinnamon, black peppercorn, ginger, cloves, and bay leaves. Variations on this are found all around the world and even from house to house.
Singapore is known for its amazing restaurants and creative cuisine. Authentic Indian food in Singapore can be found in Little India . Little India is located along the historic Seragong Road . This road received its name from ancient travelers who brought gongs with them in order to scare away any monsters and wild animals that they might encounter along the way. Singapore has been a popular place to stop for many travelers because of its historic ports. Port towns become hubs to many different cultures and because travelers often end up staying in these towns, little communities of ethnicities from around the world pop up. This is how Little India came to be.
Indian food is not known for its healthiness, but it should be. Many fried dishes and the use of ghee have given this cuisine a bad reputation. Ghee is clarified butter without any water or particles from milk. Ghee is actually good for people who are on a low fat diet because it can add a significant amount of flavor in small amounts. Fast food restaurants serving Indian dishes often use more ghee than traditional cooks in order to add more flavor and mask other not do fresh ingredients. Some of the most popular dishes are fried, but they dso not make up the bulk of Indian cuisine. Singapore is home to world class restaurants that specialize in Indian cuisine. Vegetarians are often surprised at the myriad of options available when looking at menu. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the staple of Indian dishes. Because most dishes are served over rice, those trying to avoid gluten will also be presently surprised at their many options.
Santa Rosa California at the Base of Hood Mountain
Santa Rosa, California is one of the state’s beautiful yet unassuming cities and it is located in the heart of Sonoma County and is also part of the greater San Francisco Bay area. There is a great feeling in the atmosphere that has hints of traditional cultural aspects and historic relevance to it, yet there’s a nice vibrancy and progressive feel too. The city is able to maintain a balance between feeling like a major metropolitan area and retaining a quieter charm that is more associated with smaller urban environments. Much of the architecture of the city and the building designs are also reflective of this. A lot of the establishments, including some of the major Santa Rosa hotels are located in interestingly designed and sometimes historic buildings.
It is actually the largest city in the wine country of California and maybe this is one of the aspects that lends to the unique charm of the city. Wine is a great sophistication mechanism and interestingly that’s a nice way to described the feeling of Santa Rosa, it’s like a fine wine. It’s robust and solid and has been nicely aged and has a hint of sweetness.
The city is situated in the Santa Rosa Plain with its greater eastern area extending toward the Valley of the Moon and into the greater Sonoma Valley. One of the greatest geographic visual aspects associated with the city is Hood Mountain and this is the most prominent feature seen to the east of the city. Mountains also contribute to a sense of grandeur with any area and Hood Mountain probably does this for Santa Rosa. There are numerous creeks and little rivers that flow through the area and this gives a sense of environmental mood fountain. It’s almost like the city of Santa Rosa has numerous little desk and table top fountains strategically placed around it for tranquility effects and are running at all times.
Taylor Swiftrank 2009 Artist of the Year
Taylor Swift is an award-winning chart topping American Singer, guitarist, songwriter and actress. This multi-talented twenty year old has already achieved and experienced more than what many people will in their entire careers. Most recently she was named the 2009 Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine. She was also Swiftrank as the 69th most powerful celebrity by Forbes. These are both incredible accomplishments and they only begin to tell the story of what is the life and career of Taylor Swift.
Swift was born in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania in December of 1989. She first gained outside attention for her talents when she was in fourth grade. At that time she won a national poetry competition for a poem she wrote titled Monster in My Closet. Her poetic ability would later be applied to songwriting, which she wasted no time getting involved with. She also showed an early talent for comedy and theatrical performance though her interests veered stronger toward country music.
She learned to play the guitar after a computer repairman taught her three chords. Those were all she needed to write her first song called Lucky You. Her early songwriting both developed and strengthened her skills as well as served to be an outlet for frustrated emotions that accompanied her adolescents. As is common for many artistic individuals, she did not seem to feel like she fit in well at school and is reported to have felt alienated by other students. Songwriting, particularly writing songs about rude classmates was a positive outlet for her. Today it continues to be, though on a much larger scale. And though Swift herself does not seem to be a vindictive or vengeful person, it would certainly be appropriate for her to ask former classmates, who’s laughing now? Of course she would be could do so all the way to the proverbial bank.
National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg
Paul remembered Harrisburg Pennsylvania as being cold. That was basically his one memory. Of course he had only been there once before in his entire life and that was when he was five. Naturally, Sheila excused his lack of true knowledge of the city. It was odd to Paul that he would be moving there now in his life. It seemed to him to be so foreign feeling. Paul grew up in Southern California mind you, so any city that had snow and got cold in the winter seemed foreign to him. So, there he was, twenty five years after his first visit to that cold city and he was getting ready to move there.
Sheila had talked Paul into making the move after he had lost his job in San Diego, which is where he had insisted the couple move after they were married. Sheila was fine with the idea at first and loved the idea of living by the ocean. However, once they were there and the initial fascination with the city, the state and of course the ocean, had worn off, Sheila found herself seriously missing her home. In addition, she was very close to her family and she had quite a few family members living in Harrisburg. So, after Paul was laid off, she decided it was the perfect time to suggest the move. And Paul was surprising open to the idea.
He had actually been thinking about moving recently as well. He had never really spent a lot of time outside of California and felt it was simply time to broaden his horizons. And apparently he was going to do it in a cold city. They booked reservations in one of the Harrisburg hotels and set off to find their new home. On their first day in town Paul was surprised by the beauty of the city and also seemed to be somewhat surprised by how bright and clear the day was. One of his brothers in law took him to the National Civil War Museum and they had a great time. Paul was impressed with all of the artifacts it contained, as well as its photo and document collection. He took an immediate like to Harrisburg, and this time it didn’t feel the slightest bit foreign. It felt more like his new home.
Business Trip to Singapore Turns Into Romantic Getaway For Husband and Wife
Last year Wendy and her husband David had become rather frustrated with the amount of business travel he had to take every year. Meanwhile, Wendy’s hectic and demanding nursing career left her unable to go with him on any of his trips. This was compounded by the fact that her schedule was often at conflict with David’s while he was actually in town. After a few arguments and a great deal of conversation, the two of them decided that they could afford for Wendy to take something of a work sabbatical for two months and during that time she would be able to go with David on a business trip to Singapore.
Meanwhile, David had never really been much of a fan of his business travel needs as it only served to keep him from his wife, family and friends. However, he had never before been to Singapore, and with the added aspect of being able to bring Wendy, he was actually looking forward to going to Singapore. The couple decided to stay an extra three days so they could experience the city together and not have to worry about the meetings or other work related events.
In addition, they decided to book their stay in one of the 5 star Singapore hotels so that Wendy would be able to enjoy the luxury accommodations it provided on the mornings she stayed in while David worked. However, she did get out in the afternoon and really enjoyed walks along the marina and also spent some time in the Fort Canning Green park. She was really impressed with the herb spice garden and felt such a sense of peace there that she talked David into going with her to see an out door movie in the Starlight Cinema. This trip proved to be just what the couple needed and they enjoyed romantic candle lit dinners in the top Singapore restaurants and were amazed at the skill level involved with the Cantonese Opera.
